Understaffing
March/April 2024Thomas Brown was a resident of the Maplewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He allegedly choked on food while unsupervised in his room. He was found unresponsive and rushed to a hospital ER, where he was diagnosed as having suffered profound brain damage. Brown died of his injuries. He is survived by his sister.
Suit against Maplewood Nursing and Rehabilitation alleged the facility’s drastic understaffing led to Brown’s injuries and death.
The parties settled for $210,000.
