Pressure sore leads to sepsis

February 25, 2024

Over a three-month period, Doe developed a Stage IV pressure sore on his left hip and an unstageable pressure sore on his right heel. He also developed lower extremity contractures and lost weight. He was hospitalized and died five months later.

Suit against a nursing home and health care group alleged that the pressure sore on Doe’s hip led to sepsis.

The jury awarded more than $7.6 million, including $7.5 million in compensatory damages to Doe’s five statutory beneficiaries.
