Delayed cesarean section

March/April 2025

Shada Tucker was admitted to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital to deliver her child. Labor was induced and continued for 16 hours before Tucker underwent an emergency cesarean section. Her son was diagnosed as having hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and a seizure disorder. Now three, he suffers from cerebral palsy and severe cognitive deficits necessitating 24-hour care.

Suit against the hospital alleged failure to perform a timely cesarean section, resulting in respiratory distress and brain damage.

The plaintiff and defendant reached a settlement in the amount of $18 million.
