Failure to diagnose, treat cardiac problems
March/April 2025Doe, 65, smoked since the age of 22. He suffered from hypertension that was not well-controlled, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease. He told a nurse practitioner he had severe heartburn that increased with physical activity, but the nurse practitioner allegedly did not recommend that he come in for an evaluation or go to the ER. A month later, Doe allegedly died from a myocardial infarction.
Suit against an undisclosed defendant alleged failure to diagnose or treat cardiac problems. The defense reportedly planned to argue that Doe had a history of medical noncompliance and that no autopsy had confirmed his cause of death.
The parties settled for $1.5 million.
