Inadequate preventive skin care
March/April 2025Maceo Hubbard, who suffered from dementia, glaucoma, and high blood pressure, was a resident of Simpson House, where she depended on staff for assistance with mobility and activities of daily living. During her time at the facility, she suffered a fall resulting in a fractured femur and developed a stage IV pressure ulcer. She was admitted to a hospital, where she later died. Hubbard is survived by her two adult children.
Suit against Simpson House, Inc., alleged wrongful death and survival. The plaintiff asserted that the defendant failed to provide adequate preventive skin care and failed to develop an appropriate therapeutic care plan. Suit also alleged negligence per se.
The parties settled for $400,000.
