Negligent Administration of Medication
January/February 2019Miner v. CPlace St. Charles SNF, LLC, No. 1611-CC01065 (Mo. Cir. Ct. St. Charles Cnty. July 6, 2018).
Minnie Pearson, who was in her mid- to late-70s, was admitted to Carrington Place of St. Charles after suffering a stroke. About a month into Pearson’s admission, nursing aide Heather Clark administered another patient’s hydralazine to Pearson, who became unresponsive and hypotensive. Staff implemented resuscitation efforts and later called 911; however, Pearson died several months later. She is survived by four adult children. Pearson’s estate sued the nursing facility, Clark, and her employer, Accountable Healthcare Staffing, alleging negligent administration of the hydralazine and failure to timely summon emergency medical assistance.
The defense disputed that the medication error led to Pearson’s death. The parties settled for $200,000. Plaintiff counsel: James Eason, Clayton, Mo.; AAJ members David Zevan and Rachel Roman, both of St. Louis; and Andrew Leonard, Town and Country, Mo.
