Reckless Driving Near Intersection

November 2018

Janet Pulver, 66, was several yards away from an intersection when a vehicle driven by Bennett Dunbar struck her car head on. Pulver suffered serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, and died 28 hours later. She had been retired but cared for her grandchildren on a daily basis. She is also survived by her two adult children.

Pulver’s estate sued Dunbar, alleging he was driving recklessly and traveling at almost 80 mph in a 40-mph zone at the time of the incident. This caused Dunbar to lose control of his vehicle, cross the center line, and hit Pulver’s car, the plaintiff claimed.

The defense disputed the plaintiff’s damages claim.

The parties settled for $3.81 million before trial.
