A professor of public policy and computer security at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Josephine Wolff explores the systemic weaknesses at the root of many cybersecurity breaches. Delving into several of the significant breaches that occurred between 2005–2015, such as the 2015 takeover of the Ashley Madison dating site, Wolff describes how legal and political systems react to these events but then fail to learn from them, leaving outdated standards and remedies in place. Wolff argues that cybersecurity breaches “are not failures of our technology but instead failures to craft clear and effective liability regimes” that reflect current technologies and our modern reliance on the internet.
