Truck Fatally Strikes Bicyclist
October 2019Virginia Murray, 25, was riding a bicycle she obtained through the Divvy bike-share program. While riding on a northbound Chicago street, she coasted near a truck driven by Cosmin Radu, an employee of A&B Flooring. Radu, who had been stopped at a light, turned right as Murray was riding next to the truck, striking and crushing her. Murray is survived by her parents and younger sibling.
Murray’s estate filed suit against A&B Flooring, Inc.; A&B Flooring Supplies, Inc.; and Radu, alleging liability for the incident. Suit did not claim lost income. The defense argued that Murray had been negligent.
The jury awarded the plaintiff more than $5.25 million, finding Murray 25% at fault.
