Question of the Month
How are you, your colleagues, and your staff supporting each other during the coronavirus pandemic?
July 2020“We have a one-minute physical exercise to do every two hours. One of our staff emails everyone the exercise a few minutes before it should start. Every few days, she follows up to make sure we all are doing them. We all get a good laugh a couple times a week when an exercise is fun or when our dogs try to help!”
Rebecca Walsh, Reiter & Walsh, Bloomfield Hills, MI
“It has been interesting to see how people’s core work styles adjust to remote work. The natural introverts have been incredibly productive, and the natural extroverts seem to really appreciate using video for calls whenever possible! As managers, we have tried to be sensitive to the different needs of each of our employees and to provide tools to help them all succeed.”
Ellen A. Presby, Van Wey, Presby & Williams, Dallas, TX
“We have a quick all-staff video call each morning and afternoon. We start the mornings off with an inspirational message, usually a quote reminding us that we are here to serve our clients—disability insurance claimants and disabled veterans. During our afternoon call, everyone shares a ‘win’ from the day. One team member suggested that we dress up some days, and we have had a lot of fun being ‘tacky tourists’ and ‘sports fans.’ These meetings help us keep a positive attitude and give us a sense of being a team.”
John V. Tucker, Tucker Law Group, St. Petersburg, FL
“Our firm created a publication, ‘Hausfeld Helps,’ that highlights our team’s public service in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. For instance, one team member joined her neighbors and a local catering company to provide dinners to staff at two local hospitals. Sharing our good deeds adds to our team spirit.”
Colleen Ryf, Hausfeld, Washington, DC
“We have virtual prosecco evenings on Thursdays—all of us on Microsoft Teams with a glass each!”
