Failure to yield right-of-way

June 2020

Mary Reh, 61, was crossing a street in a marked crosswalk when a school bus operated by Rose Orozcomedina made a left turn into the crosswalk, striking Reh.

Reh suffered a fractured left hip, pelvis, and left tibia, as well as facial lacerations and crush injuries to her left knee and ankle. She underwent a left ankle replacement and a left knee replacement, both of which resulted in complications. She now has limitations when walking and must use a walker or wheelchair when she goes out. Her medical expenses totaled approximately $150,000.

Reh and her husband sued the Bonita Unified School District, alleging liability for Orozcomedina’s failure to yield the right-of-way. Suit did not claim lost income.

The parties settled for $3.5 million.
