What inspires you to continue to be a member of AAJ?
January 2021AAJ is a forum of amazing trial lawyers across the nation who join forces to advocate for justice for everyone. We are better together.
Kristen L. Beightol, Edwards Kirby, Raleigh, NC
I joined AAJ as a law student member in the early ’70s. It was really a thrill to meet and know the trial greats who started making a difference: Melvin Belli, Phil Corboy, and many others. What was even more impressive was members’ willingness to help each other fight for victims’ rights and share information freely. Soon after I became quite active as one of the few female lawyers at that time. I served as chair of the Tort Law and Aviation Law Sections, and I was given the opportunity to speak at the association’s education programs as a young lawyer. I continue my membership because of the dedication we all have to helping victims and helping one another.

Very simple: Friends. An instantly available, reliable, and supportive network of wonderfully passionate friends across the nation—and world—who selflessly share their time and help for the benefit of your clients.

Since becoming a member of AAJ five years ago, I have obtained a tremendous amount of cutting-edge education and an amazing network of colleagues across the country who are only a phone call or keystroke away, willing to offer their advice and counsel on tricky issues that arise in my cases. It is a powerful feeling knowing I have the support of a remarkable organization and other trial lawyers who I am proud to call my dear friends. We rejoice in each other’s victories and lament at our defeats. I’m truly grateful for all that AAJ has given me in my career.

The camaraderie. A lot of times, as a sole personal injury practitioner, you feel like you’re out on an island. It’s great to know that thousands of lawyers just like you are out there and are willing to give you their time and help.

Professional and personal growth. As I become more specialized in trucking litigation, I have been able to meet a community of lawyers in that field at AAJ.
