If there were 25 hours in a day, how would you spend that extra hour?

May 2022

I’d close the door to my home office, dim the lights, and play one of my guitars—this always shakes me free from mental gridlock.

Martin Kardon, Kanter Bernstein & Kardon, Philadelphia, PA

Building relationships. Nothing is more important in life than the relationships you form—both personally and professionally. And using those relationships to spread kindness is life changing, for you and those around you.

Hali Marsocci, Romano Law Group, West Palm Beach, FL

Sleep! I wake up early to exercise and meditate, and I stay up late to spend time with my family. An additional hour of sleep would enhance my critical thinking and help me manage stress. It’s the missing piece to my daily puzzle.

Sydney McLafferty, Geiser, Bowman & McLafferty, Columbus, OH

I’d spend my extra hour playing with my granddaughters. Every minute with them is a joy nothing else can match.

Steve Waldman, Terry Bryant, Houston, TX

Having lost a son this past year unexpectedly, I would definitely spend this extra hour with my wife and children.

James Bartimus, Bartimus Frickleton Robertson Rader, Leawood, KS

I would spend that hour screen-free. I work on a computer, iPad, and iPhone all day and scroll on my phone and watch TV during my downtime. An extra hour each day outside, engaged in person-to-person conversation, or alone in a state of mindfulness would be great.

Brian M. Jasper, Thomas Law Offices, Louisville, KY

Reading for personal enjoyment. Between doing all the things that life as an attorney, mom, and wife requires, this is one thing I enjoy that always falls dead last on my list.

Samantha Sweeney, Spiros Law, Danville, IL

I would spend the extra hour with my 4-week-old son, since everyone in this profession keeps telling me “time flies” and to “cherish the moments.”

Stefan Feidler, Feidler Law Firm, Charleston, SC

I would spend it working. The older I get, the more passionate I am about defending the rights of nursing home residents.

Robert Daley, Robert Peirce & Associates, Pittsburgh, PA

I would spend the extra hour not rushing.

Jamie Anzalone, Anzalone Law Offices, Wilkes-Barre, PA

I would spend it with my amazing wife and four beautiful little kids. I’ve seen the fragility of life firsthand, both through my first career as an emergency medicine physician and personally (ruptured my spleen and nearly died in a mountain bike crash in 2015). There is simply not enough time on this earth to enjoy with those we love, and I try to cherish every minute.

Peter McCool, Stein Mitchell Beato & Missner, Washington, DC
