What was the best law school graduation gift you received?

May 2023

Having both of my children there to cheer for me when I graduated at 64!

Susan Craig, Kosieradzki Smith Law Firm, Plymouth, MN

A lawyer’s bookcase handmade by my grandfather from oak harvested from our family’s farm in Michigan. It will always be one of my most cherished possessions.

Tiffany Ellis, Weitz & Luxenberg, Detroit, MI

A string of Tahitian black pearls gifted by my mother-in-law. They lend a professional touch while being just a tad unexpected—and I like to think they have warded off negative energy and given me much needed “pearls of wisdom.”

Sara Schramm, Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, Athens, GA

My older sister gave me a key chain locket inscribed with the Latin phrase “amor vincit omnia,” which means “love conquers all.” This gift was symbolic of overcoming the loss of our mother to brain cancer 12 years earlier. These words guide my life today.

Anthony Beneduce, Zaremba Brown, New York, NY

The memory of my mother taking my law school diploma home with her to California after my graduation. She showed it to everyone on the airplane and all her friends at home. This still makes me smile 42 years later.

Jeffrey Tallis, Faklis, Tallis & Mead, Chicago, IL

An invitation from my dad and his partner to join their law firm. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to learn from two masters.

Thomas Henson, Jr., Henson Fuerst, Raleigh, NC
