Semi-truck driver crashes into stopped traffic

October 2023

Emanual Caro, 39, was stopped in morning traffic on an interstate highway when a driver for Swift Transportation crashed his semi-truck into Caro’s pickup truck before sideswiping other vehicles.

Caro suffered a mild traumatic brain injury, vision loss, spinal injuries, and PTSD. His medical expenses were approximately $185,900.

Caro sued Swift Transportation Co. of Arizona, LLC, alleging liability for its driver’s actions in causing the crash. The plaintiff did not claim past lost income.

The defense admitted liability but disputed the nature and extent of the plaintiff’s injuries.

The jury awarded more than $7.5 million, including interest.
