Failure to deter gun violence at apartment complex

April 2024

Doe, a young mother, was at her Georgia apartment complex when she was struck by stray bullets from a shooting involving other parties. Doe, who was pregnant, suffered fatal injuries.

Suit against the apartment complex’s owners and managers alleged failure to address known violent activity, in violation of the complex’s policies and procedures. The plaintiffs asserted that the complex had received many calls regarding gunshot incidents but failed to hire a security guard or install a fence.

The parties settled for $26 million.
