Rear-end collision

April 11, 2019

William Pierros, 45, was driving on an interstate highway when he encountered traffic near an exit. While he was stopped, a vehicle operated by Jason Sitaras rear-ended his sedan. Pierros suffered a concussion and was later diagnosed as having a traumatic brain injury. A college professor, he returned to work after a leave of absence. He continues to suffer from cognitive deficits interfering with his problem-solving ability and his ability to retain new information.

Pierros sued Sitaras, alleging negligence. The plaintiff did not claim lost income or past medical expenses.

The defendant admitted liability, and the case went to trial on causation and damages. The jury awarded $900,000.
